The starting point for planning the municipal administration and the Raiffeisenbank building was the search for the identity of this public construction project in the framework of its suburban environment. The given heterogeneous location that is surrounded by roads and railways makes the approach of a connecting architecture impossible since the existing structures are too varied and unsettled. This strengthened the conviction that this building had to be inserted into the village as a self-confident structure that derives its identity from the consistent implementation of its programme. The abstract requirements of a flexible office and administration building are fulfilled in the meticulous search for a modular building structure with its own atmospheric density.
The current issue 13/2022 of TEC21 introduces the mixed-use conversion on Denkmalstrasse in Lucerne. Among others, the report highlights how the specific concept of the building achieves a lofty spatial openness despite a highly dense urban context and how the simple and raw spaces invite to a playful appropriation for living and working. Minimalism as an offer!
